THREADS FOR FINEST SEWERS AND DESIGNERS.

Aurifil’s Mako NE 50/2 is a versatile and popular cotton thread. The 50 weight is strong, thin and results in remarkably flat and crisp seams. It is wonderful for piecing, subtle quilting & topstitching, and English paper piecing. it also works well for needle turn applique, bobbin and machine lace, machine applique (straight stitch, zigzag, blind hem and blanket stitch,) machine embroidery, dense machine quilting, subtle machine and longarm quilting, basting, whole cloth and micro quilting, and dense background designs. Needle recommendations include 80/12 microtex/sharp, universal, quilting or denim needles. A 4.0 longarm needle is also recommended. Made from 100% long staple cotton. It comes in spools of 1,422 yds. and is Tex 12. Available in a variety of colors. Please note: actual color may vary from picture due to computer setting.

Is this 50 wt and tex 12? I thought tex = 1000/weight. Is one of the numbers incorrect? Thanks!

Hello. Thanks or your question. Aurifil lists their thread as a Ne(c) 50/ 2ply. Most distributors, us included, shorten this to 50#. The formula to get the true tex is this: 590.54/Ne(C). 590.54/50= 11.82 tex. Hope that helps, we know it gets very complicated

Is it ok to use this large spool on a domestic machine? I have been using the smaller spool (1422 yds) but use so much I'd like to go with the larger spool.

A:
Hello! In order to use the larger spools you would need a separate thread stand. But yes, you could still use the thread in your machine. Thanks for your question.

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we do not have a purchasable or printable color chart at this time. We have the colors listed in the new catalog and also on the website, if needed. We're sorry for any inconvenience.

Is this tex 12 thread noticeably thinner than tex 20 Gutermann cotton thread? Is it any less strong?

A:
Tex is a unit of measurement for sizing threads. It is the gram weight of 1000 meters of thread. The higher the tex, the thicker the thread.
