The Ideal Thread for Sewing Jeans and More

Looking for a quality durable thread with strength and luster? Look no further than our Cotton-Polyester sewing threads. Cotton-Poly sewing threads contain a polyester core wrapped in a cotton casing, giving these threads the heat tolerance and natural finish of cotton plus the sewability and strength of polyester. Because of their strength and natural finish, Cotton-Polyester threads are a popular choice for jean topstitching and other decorative and functional seams. Cotton-Polyester sewing thread is available in a variety of colors and weights.

Cotton, Polyester or Blend?

Cotton, Polyester or Blend?

Which type of thread is best for your sewing projects? Cotton thread is highly sewable and has a natural finish, as well as heat resistance. It doesn’t have a lot of stretch, however, so it is best for woven fabrics like cotton or linen. Cotton Threads are commonly used in quilting. Polyester Thread has extra strength and stretch, so it is especially suited to knit or stretch fabrics like jersey. Cotton/Polyester Threads possess the best qualities of each, with the durability and stretch of polyester plus the natural look and sewability of cotton, making them a great choice for a wider range of fabrics, and very popular for working with denim.

Where is Wawak thread manufactured? Specifically your 40 wt cotton/polyester? Thank You.

I am not sure what the 40 refers to on this thread. Could you please explain it? I was wondering how it compares to a garment sewing thread like from Mettler or Gutterman in terms of thickness?

A:
Hi Constance, this thread is a tex 40. Tex is a unit of measurement for thread and it is the the weight of 1000 meters of thread. It would be the same thickness as a Gutermann Mara 70 thread and can be used for garments, thin leathers, and outerwear.

Can this thread be used in a domestic machine? If so what size needle would be best?

Does this make a lot of lint from the cotton outside? Like fuzzy and linty?

The cotton will make more lint than a poly/poly thread.

I’m confused about the Tex number. Does 40 break easier?

A:
The higher the tex, the heavier/ thicker the thread. A tex 40 is considered a medium weight thread.

What is Spun Polyester thread? How is it different from Core Polyester Thread?

A:
Spun polyester is made up of thousands of filaments of polyester. Core polyester or poly/poly has a center “core” made of poly, with an additional wrapping of polyester around it. Spun polyester is not as strong as core polyester.

I LOVE this thread!

I have a Baby Lock Intrepid BMT6 machine. Recently I wanted to embroider cotton Battenberg lace to go around (and on) a table topper. I started out using another well known brand of 40 wt cotton to create the lace, but when it was all completed I felt a little disappointed. Although it looked beautiful, I felt it was a bit too fragile in areas and worried my heirloom topper might not stay held together over time. Then I thought about this cotton/polyester thread. So I used this thread in both the upper and bobbin to create lace for a second topper. (I used a [Brother] bobbin winder to wind extra bobbins with this thread). The thread/lace shrank very little (if any) when I rinsed the stabilizer out. My lace topper looks beautiful! I would also like to add that this thread is exceptionally strong! It took a little effort for me to break it with my hands. I've since ordered other colors in this thread. I used a 75/11 titanium needle with this thread. Hope this helps!
