What is the idea of the different tex for serving thread? When would you use tex 21 or 27 or 40?

The different thickness would be used for different thicknesses of materials. The tex 40 would be considered a medium weight thread.
Is spun poly Tex 40 physically as thick as core wrapped poly Tex 40? Tex 40 seems thick for serger if it's as thick as mara 70.

Spun polyester is made up of thousands of filaments of polyester. Core polyester or poly/poly has a center “core” made of poly, with an additional wrapping of polyester around it. Spun polyester is not as strong as core polyester.

It's thicker, and would be a little harder to break. Keep in mind that a core thread will be stronger than spun threads.
