Best thing to come along since sliced bread. by

I have a little alterations shop, I also teach sewing. So you can believe me when I say I spend a significant amount of time ripping stitches out, especially when I teach. This little gem is amazing, I can't believe it took me so long to buy one. As other reviewer have stated there is a little bit of a learning curve, but my sewing students are 4-H kids and they picked it up really quickly. In fact several of them got electric seam rippers for Christmas lol. It's not great for very fine fabrics, especially fine stretchy fine fabrics, but everything else is a go. Typically I use a manual seam ripper to get the opening started before I set the electric seam ripper to it. The other thing it's great for is removing beads. Sometimes I get wedding gowns that are bead encrusted right where an alteration needs to be done, this is the perfect tool for shaving them off. Now if only I could find a tool to speed up sewing them back on I'd be all set!

Useful Addition - Same as Wahl clipper 9962-717 by

5.0

I rip with seam rippers, razor blades, or this handy clipper depending on what the situation calls for. This ripper works very well on sturdy fabrics and whizzes through serged seams. It is possible to cut lightweight fabrics with this trimmer and, as with any tool, there is a learning curve, so be careful with it. It is lightweight and fits well in the palm. When a situation will allow me to rip with this clipper or a razor blade, I generally feel safer with this clipper. I actually bought two - so I can have one at my main machine and another at my cutting table.

Please note that this clipper is a repackaged Wahl 9962-717 clipper, although that is not specified in the write-up. I was able to save a couple bucks picking up my second clipper on eBay.

As mentioned in another review, there is a learning curve, but I love this for removing stitching whenever possible. If you do a lot of alterations like I do, you'll use it often.
