There are 2 rods. One rod has 2 male threaded ends. The other has 1 male and 1 female threaded end, this is the rod that is threaded into the base flange. The other rod gets threaded into that one.

Poor Quality

I was excited to set up my new thread stand as I desperately needed one for my company and industrial sewing machine. The included instructions lack direction, although one can figure it out. But what should have taken me 15 minutes to assemble took over 40 minutes. Most of the nuts included did not fit the threads on the metal bars, eventually stripping away. The wing nut did not screw all the way down. There was no washer included, which states in the instructions there would be one. And the plastic cone stands your thread cones should sit on did not fit at all. The stand sits lop-sided now, just like the old one I replaced... Not a good fit.
