A:
Leather tape is mostly used for basting or for keeping leather in place when sewing two pieces together. It is not considered permanent so would not be recommended for repairs.

Can it be used with heavy fabrics, such as canvas, in sewing bags and pouches? Will it gum up the needle on my sewing machine?

A:
This is a very aggressive tape and can be used on heavy canvas. If your needle comes into contact with the tape, it could gum up it up.

A:
I strongly recommend using titanium coated needles if you sew through Venture (Leather) Tape. These needles are available in most of the common needle systems for both straight stitch and walking foot machines. The titanium resists gumming up the needle, especially in the eye. It's not 100% resistant, but it is good enough. After a few jobs you can clean the goop off of the needle with Goof Off or something similar. Venture Tape is great for basting leather and vinyl, but I also use it to secure zippers for sewing. If you are careful, you can lay the tape just below the stitch line.

Would this tape work well with applying a tape to the lead edge of drapes and does it require steam to make it permanent?

A:
No steam is required. It's a VERY strong double sided tape. We recommend it for leather and vinyls as they are thicker materials that wold hide any ghosting/ or bleed through effect of the adhesive.

When using this tape to hem leather, should the tape contact the entire hem, or is just the edge enough? For instance, can you use 1/4" tape for a 1/2" hem, or would you need to use 1/2" tape?

A:
You're going to want to have the highest amount of surface area, so we would recommend 1/2" in this circumstance. Just make sure you don't have any overhang, as this is a very strong and aggressive adhesive.

This tape has not been tested in dry cleaning, laundering, or wet cleaning, so no claims can be made of its effectiveness after those processes.
