What is the difference between Ban Roll and Horsehair braid? Can you use them for the same technique...can you use them interchangeably?

A:
Unfortunately, no they are not the same. Ban-roll is used to stiffen waistbands. It's non crush. Horsehair braid is used in dresses/gowns and used to define and sometimes stiffen seams. Horsehair braid has much more play in it than ban-roll does.

What softness/thickness and what size would you recommend for tulle on little girls' flower girl dresses?

Hello, that's a very good question. We would think the soft horsehair would work well. The width would be dependent on the look you were trying to achieve on the bottom of the dress.

Will horsehair braid be scratchy if it is in contact with the skin?

A:
Thank you for your question. It is kind of soft, however it's stiff, so may be uncomfortable in the long term.

I'm working with a dress with horsehair in the hem; it is folded and sewn in and is 2.25" folded. My question is: Does horsehair come folded, or do I have to get 4.5" wide horsehair? Also, how to tell if I'm using soft or hard horsehair?

A:
Horsehair does not come folded. You would have to order a 4" or 5" horsehair braid. The main difference between soft and hard horsehair braid is the thickness of the polyester "threads" or strands that make up the braid. The heavier horsehair will have thicker strands and will hold it's form better than the soft. The soft is used for flare on hem edges for lightweight garments and the heavy is used for more "flounce" in a dress.

We would recommend the soft braid. Remember, if you order it and it's not what you expected, we do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

What is the thread used for that is on one end of the Horsehair Braid?

A:
This is used to help shape the braid for the project you are using it for. You would pull on the thread and it will restrict the braid and cause it to curl.
