The catalog said EL-115 -72 x 1" loop spacing, website said is 1/2 loop spacing , which one is correct?

The loops are spaced 1" apart. The width if the looping is 1/2" wide.

What size buttons work with this looping?

The loops are 1/4" wide, so the 16L and 18L buttons work well.
