Temporary Fabric Marking Tools

Marking Pens and Pencils

Tailoring Pens and Pencils are best for making thin, precise marks on your fabric. Choose from a variety of materials and styles to draw temporary lines, designs, and pattern markings directly onto fabric. Great for quilting, embroidery, garment making, and more.

Tailors Chalk

Tailors Chalk is great for making clean lines quickly. Works well on thicker and more textured fabrics like wool, and is very visible on darker fabrics. Available in wax and clay. Wax chalk is removed with heat, and clay chalk is easily brushed away. An excellent choice for tailoring, alterations, and garment making.

Specialty Marking Tools

Choose from our other available marking tools for more specialty uses. Includes Chalk Hem/Skirt Markers for garment making and Hera Markers which crease fabric while marking it, as well as a variety of tailor’s marking tools.

How Long Do Removable Marks Last?

How Long Do Removable Marks Last?

Marking tools for sewing are made from different materials to ensure clean removal of any marks made on your fabric. The easiest to remove is Clay Chalk; markings made with clay tailor’s chalk can be easily brushed away, making this tool great for quick and less precise markings like hem markings that can be pinned or finished quickly. Air-soluble or “disappearing” inks will last about 24-72 hours, making them also a good choice for projects or details that can be finished more quickly. For markings you might need for longer periods of time, heat or water soluble marking tools (like wax chalk or water soluble pens and pencils) may be a more suitable choice, as they will remain on the fabric until ironed or rinsed out.

Can you get refills for this pen? Or do you need to buy a new one when you run out of the refills that come with it?

Is this the size of a normal pen? I don't want to end up with another short stumpy chalk marker/pencil marker of some sort. I hope so, I love the style of this pen for writing.
